What Alice Forgot by Australian author Liane Moriarty is chick lit and not the type of book I would go out and buy, but this one has a very clever premise and was chosen by one of our book club members. It’s about Alice who has fallen at the gym and hit her head, her mind sending her back 10 years in time when she was 29 years old, pregnant and mad about her husband. But in reality she is 39 with three kids and about to get divorced. After the accident, as she tries to get back into her daily routine, she has a number of things to figure out that include:
• What went wrong in her marriage?
• Why is her sister keeping her distance?
• How did she get so skinny?
• What kind of mother has she become?
• Is it better to have forgotten the past 10 years?
Sometimes it’s funny and sometimes it’s serious and her journey is difficult. I didn’t always agree with the choices she made and sometimes I wondered if it was all worth it, but the book is hopeful and it did fairly well with our book club readers, so I do recommend it. If want to see how Alice figures it all out, then go to your quiet place and start reading or listening.
